Using the Engineering Design Process, students will research, design, build, test, and evaluate a Roller Coaster at an Amusement Park ****The object is for your marble to take the most amount of time from start to finish.
Students will work together to complete the following:
Multimedia Presentation with each step documented:
As a reminder : the steps of the NASA Engineering Design Process.
1 Ask: What are the requirements? Limitations(Constraints)?
What is the challenge? Identify the problem
2 Imagine: Brainstorm possible solutions. Consider design options, web searches
3-Plan: Choose best design, draw a picture, Identify materials and safety precautions
4- Create: Build solution based on plan
5- Test: Test the item and track results( Distance, Speed, Velocity, averages )
*** additional requirement to create a chart or graph to compare your trials to 2 others
6-Improve: Evaluate and analyze results( be sure to include a summary of comparisons made )
modify design and re-test, if necessary
Be sure to include.........
-include images or video of your team working and completed product.
-create an excel spreadsheet or other chart to document trials ( 5 required)
- conduct 5 trials to determine distance, time, and speed(velocity) V=D/T
Be sure to determine average ( just as in our Airplane Challenge)
- include a bibliography page (resources and url's)
- for evaluation/improvement---- Make a comparison of your slowest time to that of two peer groups.
- be sure to copy and paste the grading rubric into your presentation ( bibliography page)
