"In Windows OS, files are managed in a hierarchical file system. The hierarchical system represents an upside down tree. The Hard Drive is organized by folders, subfolders and files. In the Window OS, the root folder is C Drive. C Drive is organized into folders, subfolders and files. In Windows OS, folders are sometimes referred to as directories."
To use succesfully the Windows file system, you must understand the hierarchiical file structure. Each drive (storage location) is named with a letter. Your computer hard drive is usually Drive C. The DVD drive is Drive D generally. Look at the image below for more clarification of this with using Windows XP, Windows 7, and Vista.
